How to create audio CDs using iTunes

April 14th, 2009

To make your own CD, you need:

  • A computer with an internal disc drive that can burn CDs (CD-RW or SuperDrive), or a compatible external drive. (To see if your drive is compatible, choose Edit > Preferences, click Advanced, and click Burning. If your drive is listed, it’s compatible.)
  • A blank CD. If you plan to play the CD on a consumer CD player (not only on a computer), you need to use a blank CD-R disc, not a CD-RW disc.
  • An iTunes playlist containing the songs you want on the CD. You can fit about 74 minutes of music (about 20 songs) on a 650 MB CD-R disc. Some discs can contain 80 minutes (700 MB) of music. (You can see the size of the selected playlist at the bottom of the iTunes window.) For instructions on creating a playlist, search help for “creating lists of songs.”

To create an audio CD:

  1. Select the playlist containing the songs you want to burn to the CD, and make sure all the songs you want to include have a checkmark beside them.
  2. Insert a blank disc and click Burn Disc (at the bottom of the iTunes window).
  3. Select Audio CD as the Disc Format.
  4. Choose your options:
    • When you burn a CD, iTunes automatically adjusts the recording speed to the blank CD’s rating. However, if your blank CD is rated for a slower speed than the maximum speed of your drive, or if you experience problems creating CDs, you may want to change the CD recording speed to match the CD’s rating by choosing an option from the Preferred Speed pop-up menu.
    • To change the length of the silence between songs, choose an option from the Gap Between Songs pop-up menu.
    • To have all the songs on the CD play at the same volume, select Use Sound Check.
    • CD players in some vehicles can display information stored on CDs; select Include CD Text to use this option.
  5. Click OK.

If the playlist contains more songs than will fit on the CD, iTunes burns only the number of songs that fit on one disc, and then asks you to insert another disc to continue burning the remaining songs. If the playlist includes Audible spoken programs with chapter markers, the chapters are burned as separate tracks.

It might take several minutes to burn an audio CD. You can cancel the burn by clicking the X next to the progress bar (but if you’re using a CD-R disc, you won’t be able to use it again).

If the playlist contains iTunes Store purchases that are not iTunes Plus songs, you can burn the playlist to a CD up to seven times.

How to convert DVD movie to iPod mp4 video?

March 24th, 2009
How to convert/rip DVD movie to MP4 video and upload DVD movie to iPod touch, iPod classic, iPod nano using iTunes?

DVD movies (Commercial DVDs and Self-made DVDs) are encoded using a combination of MPEG-2 compressed video and audio of varying formats (AC3, DTS, MP2, DCM).  You can not copy DVDs directly since DVDs have a lot of restrictions. Generally, DVD movies have copyright protection to protect DVD movies from being copied illegally. Meanwhile, commercial DVDs have region code, hence you can not watch DVDs from different region.  Many DVD players are or can be modified to be region-free, allowing playback of all discs. Those things make a lot trouble for people to use their own DVD movies.

If you want to put DVD movie to iPod, you need to use software like Aimersoft DVD to iPod Converter, it can convert copyright protected DVD movies to iPod mp4 format.

How to back up iTunes purchase

March 17th, 2009

Undoubtedly,  iTunes is the best music management tool on the earth. Many people use it to mangement their songs and movies. As you grow your iTunes library, you’ll want to back up your purchased music and videos. Backing up in iTunes is just like burning an audio CD, but you’ll change your preferences to burn a data CD instead of an audio CD. And if your songs and video won’t fit on one CD, iTunes will simply prompt you to insert additional blank CDs or DVDs as needed.

If you’ve only used one computer to buy music, you can use the Purchased playlist in your Source list to find your purchased music. But if you’ve used a few different computers to buy music, you can create a Smart Playlist that will look for your purchased music no matter which computer you used.

How to add customized CD artworks

March 15th, 2009

Songs you purchase from the iTunes Music Store include album artwork. However, you can add your own graphics to any song or album in your library.

To do so, click the “Show or hide song artwork and video viewer” button in the lower-left corner of the iTunes window. You can easily switch between the selected song and currently playing song, by clicking the “Selected Song” or “Now Playing” text above the album art. To add album art to a song, select a song in your library, and then drag an image from your hard disk to the Artwork pane. The image will be displayed every time you listen to that song. You can assign a different picture to every song, or assign one picture to a group of songs.

Add CD Artwork in iTunes

You can also locate the song in iTunes library, right click on it and choose “Get info”,  swtich to the artwork tab, then you can add artwork to the album or a single song.
